The Gruha Jyothi Scheme in Telangana aims to provide 200 units of free electricity to all households in the state. This initiative was announced by the Congress government during the 2023 Telangana Assembly Election.
Part of the Congress Manifesto, this scheme stands out as the only one with the motto “Light up all houses.” It guarantees 200 units of free electricity for domestic use in every household.
By providing this free electricity, the scheme aims to ease the burden of electricity bills for families, reducing their expenses. It was officially launched by the new Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, benefitting over 83 lakh households across the state.
Families consuming below 200 units per month won’t need to pay for their electricity usage, significantly relieving financial pressure on smaller households.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme Benefits
The Gruha Jyothi scheme provides 200 units of free electricity for domestic use in all households. If a family consumes less than 200 units, they won’t have to pay for electricity. However, if consumption exceeds 200 units, they’ll be charged for the additional units at the regular rate.
This initiative by the Congress government significantly benefits low-income households by helping them with their electricity expenses. The scheme is open not only to homeowners but also to tenants living in leased houses, provided they present the necessary documents as proof when the meter is registered under the homeowner’s name.
In villages and towns where electricity availability remains a major issue, this scheme is especially advantageous.
